Emotional Freedom Technique and Matrix Re-imprinting
Root cause of Disease
As a Master practitioner of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT also simply referred to as ‘tapping’) and Matrix Re-imprinting, I treat a wide range of ailments and conditions, from addictions and phobias, to physical pain, anxiety and the symptoms of disease. Because most of our physical and mental problems are rooted in emotional trauma and stress, it makes sense that this is what needs to be looked at first. The body is a messenger and it provides clues. All symptoms of dis-ease are indicators of some underlying distress. Disease, as the word suggests, is lack of ease, peace, harmony in the body or mind. The health challenge you are facing today may be the result of years of stress or because of some trauma held in the body for perhaps ten or thirty years.
How the Body Talks to You
Stress compromises the immune system. If only the symptoms are treated when we fall ill, and the underlying cause is not addressed, the body will produce another condition, another messenger to alert us. Once the root cause of any condition is identified and treated appropriately, the body will heal itself. Conflict is war and if there is conflict in our lives, whether it is internal or external, the fact is we are at war. And there will be casualties. There always is!
EFT is a very effective tool for resolving conflict and clearing the underlying cause of disease. It is the ultimate ‘Restore Tool’. The world we experience is a reflection of our beliefs, what Gary Craig, the founder of EFT calls ‘the writing on our walls’. Most of our beliefs about life were formed while we were still children, at a time when we were not capable of making valid judgements about the events we experienced. As a result we are bound by some very limiting beliefs like – ‘ I can’t sing’, ‘I’m no good at art’, ‘I can’t do maths’, ‘I’m no good at sport’, I’m not pretty or strong or………whatever’ The world is a dangerous place’; ‘Money is the root of all evil.’ And so, on and on, it goes. These are just beliefs. They are neither true nor not true, but if we believe them we make them our truth and that is what we get.
EFT restores Harmony
EFT enables us to look at the beliefs we hold and decide if we want to keep them. If they are not serving us we can change them, with the aid of EFT or some other tool like NLP, EMDR, Time Line Therapy etc. My experience is that EFT is both very quick and effective because it releases the negative energy trapped in our bodies and restores them to equilibrium, while at the same time, acknowledging the harmful beliefs and then letting them go. A typical session of EFT will take about eighty minutes. Some people experience relief from physical symptoms almost immediately but every individual is different and it may take more delving into the root causes of the problem before relief is experienced. Because it is such a simple technique to learn, the client can begin to work on him/herself after the first session (and I strongly advise people to do so). In this way clients become self-empowered. They see how the healing occurs and become actively involved in the process.
A typical EFT session will last about one hour. In that time you will learn how to use the tapping protocol for issues which may concern you on a daily basis, like frustrations or worries. This means that you, the client will have a tool which you can use yourself.
As we work together during a session we will explore the root causes of your bigger problems and through the process release these. I do not always need to tap on the client, as you can tap on yourself, though sometime a client may prefer to be tapped on.

Freedom from negative emotions is something everyone desires. If we could let go of our frustrations, fears, envy and resentment, if we could acknowledge our anger, our grief and then release them we could enjoy peace, contentment and be happy, most if not all the time. This is my experience. Since I discovered EFT, I have been able to let go of the past, forgive those who wronged me (or who m I perceived had wronged me), appreciate every moment and enjoy peace and joy no matter what problems I have.

EFT for Young People
Ireland's suicide rate amongst adolescents aged 15 to 19 was higher than the international average.
A recent report also shows a worrying rise in self-reported adolescent mental health issues, indicating that teenagers themselves have concerns about their mental health. It found that 22.6pc of children aged 11 to 15 reported experiencing two or more psychological symptoms more than once a week.
Ireland has the fourth highest rate of suicide among teens in the EU, with only Lithuania, Estonia and Finland experiencing higher rates.
Stress seems to be a part of life for everyone nowadays, even for small children. From an early age children are expected to perform either in the classroom or on the playing field. Extra curricular activities mean that both parents and children are running from one event to the next with little or no time to ‘stand and stare’. Life has taken on such a fast pace that the effects of stress are evident everywhere, but nowhere more acutely than in secondary school. The ‘rat-race’ to college has reached frenzied proportions and while everyone is talking about the stress few seem to have any solution.
Mindfulness is one very effective tool to manage stress and is now widely used in both health and corporate organisations. It may be a little unrealistic to expect hard-pressed students, who are preparing for state examinations to embrace this practice, to the degree that would be necessary to achieve results they desire if they have not previously been practising it. I am not suggesting that it is not an effective tool. It is and I highly recommend it. However, given the nature of teenagers and the fact that they are already highly stressed, to ask that they sit still and silence the mind for ten or twenty minutes, perhaps twice a day, is unrealistic to say the least.
What therefore can they do? There is another equally and perhaps even more effective tool which will do everything that mindfulness promises, and much more and this is EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique. Tapping a few acupuncture points while focusing on the stress (or any other problem) will not only calm the amygdala (that part of the brain which is aroused in situations of stress) but also release blocked energy from the body. Every stressful moment or experience causes the energy in our bodies to be blocked and over time, this blocked energy creates ‘dis-ease’ or sickness.
Why is Tapping (EFT) a more suitable calming tool for teenagers? Because it involves action and the person can feel the benefit on a physical, mental and emotional level immediately. The tangible relief which those who tap feel, even as they are doing it convinces them of the benefit and enables them to get on with the task on hand – their study or assignments.
Tapping produces many positive effects which will aid the student in his/her preparation for examinations. It enhances the functions of the brain, memory and retention; it refreshes the student and gives renewed energy when inclination to work is absent. It stimulates the brain without any negative side-effects such as drugs or coffee have. In as little as five or ten minutes (sometimes just one minute), one can become refreshed and re-focused. What student wouldn’t want to be able to have this tool at their finger-tips?
It really is ‘Freedom at your finger-tips’ because EFT involves tapping with the tips of two or three fingers on a few well chosen points on the face, hand and body, while repeating a few phrases which focus on the problem at hand, be it tiredness, worry or inability to grasp a topic or concept.
www.eftuniverse.com reviews many of the research studies done on EFT. One statistic is worth quoting: ‘In a study of 216 healthcare workers, anxiety and depression fell by 45% pain dropped by 68%. This is what is possible with EFT.

How to treat an issue with EFT:
Choose a problem or issue, for example, frustration with your homework, a teacher, parent or child.
First get an idea of how big the problem is (use a measurement, on a scale from 0 – 10 where zero is no problem and 10 is almost unbearable) If the child is young ask him/her to use their hands to indicate how big the problem is.
A sample script to reduce resistance to study French
Let’s say you are struggling to learn French verbs and you are either too tired or you just can’t seem to remember or grasp them.
Rate how difficult you are finding the task right now from 0 -10, where 0 is no problem and 10 is ‘impossible’
While tapping gently on the Karate chop (refer to the image above), say out loud three times:
‘Even though I can’t learn these French verbs/ I feel too tired to do this, I love and accept myself’. This is called ‘the set-up phrase.
Now while focusing on the feeling and tapping about seven times on each of the points on the body repeat the words, ‘these French verbs’ (This is called the reminder phrase) Tap very gently while repeating the words.
When you have tapped each of the points seven times, take a deep breath, and see how you feel about the verbs now.
If there is a change in how you feel, for example you may have started with a feeling of 8 or 9, but now your frustration might be about a 5 or 6, you need to change your set-up phrase to account for the change. So now you might say:
‘Even though I still have some frustration around these French verbs, I deeply love and accept myself’ three times while tapping the Karate Chop point.
And once again tap seven times on each of the points on the body while saying ‘these French verbs’, all the while focusing on how you feel when you think of your French verbs
Now check in with your body again. How resistant are you to learning the verbs now?
If the resistance has dropped some more you might try once more to learn your French verbs.
As you were tapping you might have begun to think about the teacher and feel frustrated with the way you are being taught. Or you might recall how you felt when you were trying to learn Irish or Italian verbs on another occasion. All of these thoughts are significant and you can now do some tapping on each of these issues.
The set up phrase will now be something like this:
‘Even though I hate grammar, I always find grammar hard to learn; I deeply and completely love and accept myself.’
And your reminder phrase might be:
‘All these grammar rules mess me up.’
Or if a teacher was the issue, you might create a set-up phrase like: Even though I can’t stand Mr/Ms X and I get all confused, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Before you start tapping again, check in with the feelings in your body and identify where the discomfort is and how strong it is on the 0 -10 scale. If you can put words on your feeling use those words in your set-up phrase.
Once more, having tapped on the karate chop and repeated three times your set-up phrase, now form a ‘reminder phrase’ to use on all the other points as you tap around the body.
Always test after one or two rounds. Get in touch with the feelings you identified earlier and see are they still as strong.
There are a few alternative things you can do if you feel no change at all. Identify the sore spot. It is a lymphatic drainage point which is about an inch and a half outside the collar bone point. If you gently rub in a circular motion you will identify a small area which is tender to rub (even as you rub gently).
Rub this point as you repeat the set-up phrase, instead of the karate chop point. It may help.
Another approach is to close your eyes as you tune into your body to feel where and how strong the negative feeling is, as you do so, see if you can connect a colour with the feeling. Either you will see a colour or you will have a sense of knowing that a particular colour is associated with this feeling in your body. Once you have done one or two rounds of tapping as explained above, close your eyes again and see/perceive what change has occurred in the colour. Because our subconscious minds use the ‘language’ of imagery and colour, while the conscious mind, being more conditioned to logical processes, prefers figures to images. EFT can sometimes be so fast and effective that we can find it hard to accept that change has occurred so quickly and so we resist believing that the negative feeling has gone or almost gone so fast. We tend to be conservative when we are testing, after a round or two of tapping.
What the tapping has done is relieve the stress you were feeling, got the blood to flow to your brain, thus feeding it and reducing the negative hormones which your brain had been producing while struggling with the verbs. If you are feeling stressed the body focuses on escape from perceived danger. It cannot think about French verbs in that moment. The body is preparing for fight or flight, or worse still it freezes! This is what often happens when we are facing exams or a public performance. EFT calms the amygdala, that part of the brain that is always on high alert for danger.
The tapping also releases the energy blockages in our energy systems.
This is how Gary Craig explains what is happening:
‘The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system’. This disruption is removed by the tapping and the words used in EFT.

A vision board creates an emotional connection that motivates you
This works especially well if you make your vision board more than just pictures. Make it also about the emotions connected with your vision and the sensory experience of it all. What sounds, smells, and sights are associated with a particular aspect of your vision? What emotions? Relief, wonder, or joy?
Vision board makes real the dream in your mind so you begin to believe it’s possible.
When you make something more clear and concrete in your mind, it feels more real and attainable. You start to believe that, hey, I just might be able to make this happen.
Once that’s complete, you’ve officially completed your vision board.
Just make sure to spend five to ten minutes each day reflecting on it including the emotions and sensory experiences related to each aspect of your vision.

I was first introduced to Tapping by Clare Muldowney and Siobhan O'Shea (Kilkenny) I can honestly say I knew nothing what-so-ever about it but what I did know was that my entire world had imploded and there were no words to remotely express the hurt, the pain, the sorrow, the utter confusion and feeling of total and utter betrayal I felt.
(I was going to put my pain, my hurt etc. but decided the word 'my' would give these feelings more power and I'm not doing that.)
I was so confused, so hurt and I had no idea which end was up. I did, however, know that when one hits rock bottom - there is the foundation of which one stands up, dusts oneself off and starts building a new life (and let your friends help you). One step and a time. Little steps will get us where we are going and remember to enjoy the journey (the Now) and start living your life.
I cannot remotely tell you (or me) how or why Tapping works. All I can tell you, is that it does.
Bit by bit, I went through the wreckage of what was left and found me, smiled, laughed and lived again.
Tapping will help pick you up, point you in the right direction and start you on the journey of building a new, better life for you. Embrace it.

I was in a dark place and I could not shift from it. I had tried many different counsellors but experienced no relief. In desperation, over Christmas 2011, I googled local energy healers, and made contact with Clare. We started working together straight away. Since then I have never looked back.
Over the years, Clare has stuck with me, helping me to resolve the many issues that had been holding me tight.
Tapping is a wonderful healing tool and combining matrix work with it I find very powerful. I use tapping myself all the time whether the problem is emotional or physical. But for tackling big stuff working with a good practitioner really gives one a head start.
I started the tapping with Clare and at first I found it hard to connect with my feeling so that Clare and I could tap through them. The idea of tapping seemed bizarre and I had my doubts.
The second week though I was able to connect with my emotions and deal with some hurt from my recent past. After that I was really able to tap through some difficult emotions I had been for a long time dealing with, with amazing results!
It took me a while to get into the habit of tapping at home, I began tapping when watching TV or when in bed before I went to sleep. I began to feel a real change in myself.
The tapping was not only a great way for me to release old hurts but it also helped me relax and feel calm.
It was a truly an interesting and amazing experience.
This is what one of the participants of my recent Vision Board workshop had to say about the experience:
"Like most great ideas when we first hear them we think "Sure, that is so simple I could have thought of it myself" but did not!
No matter how fast or what speed you proceed on a journey one important factor is to have some idea where you want to go and the Vision Board Course gives you a safe space to stop for a minute and think what would I like to do with my life.
It almost gives you PERMISSION to think of yourself first or even just to truly think - so many of us just whisk through life in such a hurry ......
and by doing so it means we are going IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION because so often without realising it we are full speed ahead but in the wrong direction -and if you are - stop - observe the scenery and then alter the course - You were on the scenic route - no problem there but it is good to have an odd look at the 'ould map!"
EFT has been used to help relieve all sorts of ailments from the symptoms of chronic and acute diseases to addictions and phobias but as I am not a medical professional I cannot guarantee that the results you get will be the same as others. The process at least in part involves the participation of you, the client and therefore results may vary. I can guarantee that I will be totally present for you when we work together.
